In a recent interview, Autry J. Pruitt, CEO of the New Journey Political Action Committee (PAC), outlined the mission and strategy of his organization, offering an unflinching assessment of the political landscape. New Journey PAC has one singular focus: moving Black voters from the Democratic column to the Republican column. Pruitt emphasized that while many Black leaders and organizations inspire, entertain, educate, or provide spiritual guidance, no single institution has been permanently devoted to the sustained task of realigning voter loyalty toward conservatism.
Pruitt described a three-pronged approach. First, New Journey leverages traditional PAC methods such as advertising and marketing through radio, television, and digital media. Second, it invests in direct community engagement—meeting people face-to-face, listening actively, and addressing real needs rather than pushing pre-scripted talking points. Finally, the PAC links like-minded organizations together, such as connecting education-focused groups like UrbanCURE with faith-based communities, thereby amplifying conservative solutions in practical, localized ways.
Addressing the broader political context, Pruitt noted that for decades the Democratic Party has positioned itself as the “big tent,” often portraying dissenters as racists regardless of race or background. He stressed that overcoming such entrenched narratives will take time—an estimated 20 to 30 years to shift Black voter alignment back toward the Republican Party at levels once seen in earlier generations. By invoking the Republican Party’s historical legacy as the party of Lincoln, Pruitt underscores the importance of reminding communities of their shared history while steadily building long-term trust.
Through this discussion, Pruitt demonstrates his role not only as a PAC leader but also as a thoughtful analyst of cultural and political change. His focus on strategy, persistence, and community-level credibility positions him as a significant voice in shaping the future of political engagement.
